Five by Five 02:52
Tell me a story But don't tell me how it ends There's pleasure in the process Pleasure in the process It's been a day now A week, a month, a year So what have you got to tell me? What have you got to tell me? Seems like everybody's heading somewhere Even if they've got nowhere to be So come out and play Shut up and say Something that moves me You're five by five There is no justice So forget about right and wrong There's no such thing as progress But there's pleasure in the process Seems like everybody's heading somewhere Even if they've got nowhere to be So come out and play Shut up and say Something that moves me You're five by five Seems like everybody's heading somewhere Even if they've got nowhere to be So come out and play Shut up and say Something that moves me You're five by five

Give Up 03:41
Turns of phrase, twists of tongue So much age for one so young Whilst I wonder from whence you came There are so few who know your name Asymmetry, but a propos Drawn to what we do not know So surreal, I'll take the chance And return that longing glance Shit gets real, find the door Before you feel anything more Lights come on, take the stage Tell the stories from that page The one you wrote before my eyes Inspired there between my thighs Disappear as you arrived Without warning, by surprise [CHORUS] Now all I see are recurring themes Morbid patterns, broken dreams Struggling to learn what it means But it means nothing at all It takes up space inside my head Bleeds me dry, leaves me for dead For all the times that it's been said You'd think by now that I'd have given up on love Silence is deafening, it's true Desperately waiting for a signal to come through Eventually you'll walk away And lie to yourself that it's better off this way Maybe someday I'll understand Why nothing seems to go as planned Starting back now at square one For the record, it's been fun [CHORUS]

You can't always be high It can't always be good You don't always comply When you know that you should You do the best that you can Take the ebbs with the flows In this strange, fickle world That's just the way that it goes [CHORUS] It's a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 A reminder to self that you're still alive A promise and a plea to make it to another day Then a 6 and a 7 and an 8, 9, 10 Time to get on up and do it all again Don't shoot the messenger before you hear what he's got to say There's a knock at the door But there's nobody home Even when you're inside You like being alone You can fight the good fight Get your head in the game But at the end of the day Is it all not the same [CHORUS] While the story plays out Before they take final bows There's still a cast on the stage 'Til the curtain comes down [CHORUS]

Wind Me Up 03:53
Maybe he loves me Maybe he loves me not Maybe he's scared, unsure, unhinged And just likes to fall in love a lot Maybe I'm in over my head and should just leave it alone It's a sticky situation Feels like an eternity I think the fear of the uknown Is gonna be the death of me I breathe in, breathe out, keep calm 'til he looks my way [CHORUS] I'm a wind up toy, baby, don't you wanna come and play? Crank me up, watch me lose control, and dance the night away Push the button, turn the dial You can try to hide that smile But I'm fairly sure I know you're/your game You can wind me up today if you want me to stay The quiet scares me It can be unsettling Because the moment that he's gone The real world catches up with me It's the crash after the high that keeps you craving more [CHORUS] [CHORUS]

about

In 2015, Joel Wu quit his job to travel the world for a year and when he returned, he settled in Minnesota. Maryjo Mattea, however, still lived in Washington, DC. It's tough to keep a band going when the members live in different time zones, but Joel and Maryjo are making the long-distance thing work and released their protest single "November 8, 2016" on the one-year anniversary of the events that inspired it, and are releasing their second EP, "Wind Me Up (and other songs that don't suck)," in 2018. The irreverently titled EP contains four new tunes from the grunge/garage rock duo about life philosophies, "ghosting," clinical depression, and lust and attraction.
